ACS Areté Award for Civic Responsibility
Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 9:18PM As a community that comes together to address the needs of others, ACS strives to promote civic responsibility and to model it for its students. As part of ACS’ civic responsibility accreditation goal, the Social Studies department launched the ACS Areté Award for Civic Responsibility during the 2008-2009 school year. The award was developed in order to define civic responsibility and publicly recognize activities and deeds of others in the school’s community. In turn, it is hoped that this recognition will inspire others to rise up and become more involved in their community.
The ACS Areté Award for Civic Responsibility pays tribute to members of the ACS community for:
- embodying the spirit of areté and civic responsibility
- demonstrating extraordinary initiative to serve others
- striving socially and ethically as healthy, responsible members of the community
- modeling service at ACS and/or in the local community
- inspiring others to become involved.
There are a total of five arête awards given per year:

- One award is for faculty or staff member deeds
