Kokkali, Korinna, Faculty, Junior Kindergarten

Ms. Korinna Kokkali was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her studies at the University of Illinois, in Urbana-Champaign, where she graduated with honors in her education courses. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and received her certification from the State of Illinois.  In addition to her degree, she also holds approval for Special Education.

Ms. Kokkali has been teaching children primarily in Junior Kindergarten since 2001. Having first worked in the Chicago Public School system and then moving on to ACS Athens in 2006, she has had much experience working with young children who come from a diverse background, many of which were students who spoke English as a second language.  

Ms. Kokkali is always pursuing new and innovative methods of facilitating the learning process so that she can enhance and improve her own teaching style. She has attended many conferences since attaining her certification. In recent years, her professional development includes the following: In 2019 Ms. Kokkali had the opportunity to attend the Play on Early Education Conference, an International Conference where best practices were shared regarding Early Childhood Education and the importance of play at this age. That same year, she also participated in the Next Generation Science Standards training, which gave her useful techniques to further her students’ curiosity in scientific concepts. In 2020, she participated in the ISS Hybrid Learning in Early Years Conference, AERO Math Workshop, Reading and Writing Project Workshop, and Documenting Learning in the Early Years Webinar. Through these experiences, she was acquainted with practices being used in the forefront of Early Childhood Education. During the summer of 2021, Ms. Kokkali attended a workshop on Systems Thinking which is a transformational approach to learning, problem-solving, and understanding the world. She is excited to use this approach in her classroom, helping her students see beyond the heart of a problem to find fair and lasting solutions that deliver benefits. On a yearly basis, Ms. Kokkali conducts action research so that she can strengthen her teaching while always preserving and cherishing the enthusiasm of learning through play and discovery in all her students.
