ACS Elementary School presents: Worldwide Winter Wonder Holiday Concerts, 13th and 14th of December 2011

Dino-Daze 2011 the much-acclaimed first grade dinosaur show is back! First graders are dinosaur-ific (!) - Knee deep in swampy details about the good ‘ole days of long ago! How was the prehistoric world different from our modern world? How do we know dinosaurs existed? What happened to the dinosaurs? First grade family and friends are invited to the performance at the ACS Athens Arts Center on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10am.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Come one come all! The cowardly Prince Pointdexter must slay a dragon for the Kingdom of Gulp to believe that he is brave! Come watch the interesting twist! The 5th grade will perform in this original play entitled, "The Quest for Courage."

Each year displays look a little different depending on the focus of each student's contribution to the inquiry of "What makes Greece unique?". The museum is an excellent way to capture what students have uncovered and discovered through their research about places in Greece. Their writing, art work, dancing and verbal explanations serve as effective assessment of content, skills and concepts understood and learned through this unit of study about our host country. Though the photos cannot capture everything, they supply a brief glimpse of a wonderful learning experience. Enjoy.

Fifth graders wrote and produced an original play, "The Quest for Courage." During their theatrical pursuit, students learned much about the craft of script writing, acting, and preparing props and scenery for a play. Together they created a clever drama about a cowardly prince who was afraid of his own shadow. Prince Poindexter had to conquer his fears, become a brave knight, and attack the dragon in The Fearsome, Frightful Forest. We celebrate the enthusiasm, learning, and creative talent that students discovered participating in this magical event.

This project began with each student thinking of a noun. When they had a noun in mind, they then had to come up with two adjectives that described the noun. Then, they had to think of another noun that in some way related to the first noun they thought of. Then again they had to come up with two adjectives to describe their second noun. They then created a sentence and then painted the meaning. Enjoy!
