Parenting is a tough job.  It is all nice on television commercials, with happy easily managed children, yet the reality is rather different.  Most days children are the gift of life, but there are those days and moments when parents are challenged to the extreme.

There are tantrums, shouting matches, arguments, conflicts over bedtime and many more issues that at times, can throw a dark shadow on the greatest joy in life.   Many parents may feel ill equipped to deal with the challenges of parenting, and constant challenges wear them down, becoming, tired, fatigued and exhausted.   Parenting burnout is becoming a reality for some parents, and it might feel like a black pit.

In this lecture we will explore the signs and symptoms of parenting burnout, and explore simple and feasible steps that can be taken to manage burnout and re-discover the daily joy of parenting.

From 9:30 am - 12:00 pm students will take part in various games and activities which will be set up in various areas around our school (in case of rain, in the Academy gym).

Please have your child/ren dressed with a color t-shirt of the House they are in (please see below), comfortable pants or shorts, sports shoes, and a hat.  They should also have a water bottle with them and sunscreen should be applied at home.

W elcome to the 2013 ACS Athens Spring Fair organized by the PTO.  We are delighted to invite faculty, parents, students and staff, to the annual Fair taking place on Saturday, May 18th 12:00 - 16:00.

The Spring Fair has always been a collaborative effort - a fun, exciting celebration of the ACS Athens community that is highly anticipated, every spring.

Even though not its primary goal, the Spring Fair, also manages to raise funds for our school, via your donations and volunteer work, food and other sales.

 

We will again feature our Y.E.I.A. (Young Entrepreneurs in Action) Student Vendor area.   This is for individual students that wish to have a booth of their own.   The only vendors at the fair will be our students.   Any class, club or student organization can participate, and they keep the funds raised.

Truman, U.S. PresidentThe 10th grade American Studies Honors “Combo” class is embarking on its 12th annual “ President Harry Truman Trial,” an interactive courtroom simulation that evaluates the decisions and methods used to end World War II.  During the past month, students have researched and prepared their roles as either historical figures, or prosecuting and defending attorneys in the “mock trial” of U.S. President Harry S. Truman for “crimes against humanity.”  The argumentation, questions, and case structures have been created solely by the students.

This authentic learning experience challenges students to apply their research, critical thinking, and public speaking skills in order to persuade the jury of Truman’s “guilt or innocence.”

The “Truman Trial”  will be broadcast live, with the schedule as follows:

The course was part of the Program of College and Professional Courses for High School Students (fall/winter); and was also part of the Adult Education Program (spring), offered by the Institute of Innovation and Creativity.

The results of this encounter with the fine art of photography will be exhibited at the Theater at ACS beginning April 23, 2013. 

Themes of the projects exhibited include the urban landscape of Athens, daily travel through Syntagma square and sport in daily life, with works by Stavroula Stathopoulou and Alex El Habr (ACS Athens students), Jennifer Ananiadis.
