ADHD in the Classroom: An Interactive Experience

Presentation or Workshop Description:

ADHD behaviours pose many problems in the classroom.  A cooperative learning environment can be achieved through heightened awareness and applicable changes to the classroom ecology.

Participants will experience:

  • a no-frills, fast-paced session
  • a sensory stimuli enhanced classroom environment
  • a look past the three primary clinically described behavioural symptoms and to what really occurs in the classroom
  • helpful hints / strategies to lessen teacher emotional strain / while building student self-worth
  • role-play active/reflective listening strategies
  • a selection of collaborative learning activities utilising various groupings
  •  applying strategies to content facilitation, instructional process, student products and classroom environments through cooperative group analysis and categorising.

Presentation or Workshop Learning Objectives (what participants should learn/take away from the presentation or workshop):

  • will feel the effects of a stimuli enhanced classroom environment
  • make connects between the experience in a stimuli enhanced classroom environment and the classroom experiences of students with ADHD
  • enhance awareness and knowledge of a variety of effective strategies for the classroom
  • enhance awareness and knowledge about the areas of the classroom ecology where strategies can be implemented
  • utilize critical thinking skills to analyze and categorize strategies implementation
